We greatly value our alumni and friends and rely on their support to continue the work of the Dialectic Society. If you would kindly like to financially support the Society and the restoration of the Mace, it would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested, there are a range of ways to endorse the Society from continued or one-off financial donations to corporate sponsorship, all of which allow us to continue our aims of introduction and promotion of debating across campus.
If you are graduating this year and have old textbooks to give away, why not donate them to the Dialectic Society? There are various ways in which old textbooks can be helpful in supporting the society, either by donating the textbooks to the Society or selling them in the SRC Second-hand Bookshop under the name of the Dialectic Society.
Some of our alumni wish to donate money towards prizes to be awarded at events, for which we are most appreciative.
This year the Dialectic Society introduced a new cup to be awarded for GUU Parliamentary debating; The Frederick Richters Cup for Best Non-Native Speaker, seen here with Fiona Bowen, Dialectic Vice President 2012-2013.
It is our great pleasure to announce the finalisation of the restoration of the Dialectic Society Mace. The mace is a valued part of the Dialectic Society's history and is an integral part of GUU Parliamentary Debates, which sees members of both the Society and GUU Debates come together five times a year to debate on a range of motions and are for many, highlights of their student years at Glasgow University.
The extensive work on the mace was carried about by Morrison-Ignatieff Silversmiths in Glasgow and has been a costly expense to the Society. We have hosted several events to fund raise towards the work and have introduced Dialectic Scarves to our merchandise to continue our work towards ensuring the preservation of the Mace and the Dialectic Society.
As part of the Dialectic Society's aim to preserve the history of the Society and of debating on campus, extensive work in digitising Society archives have been underway and will soon be released on our website under our archives page.
